Eric Drewry brings over two decades of expertise in safety and security to his role as Founder and Principal Consultant of Drewry Consulting Group. His career spans a wide range of high-stakes environments, including protection of high-value assets and personnel, crisis preparedness and response, and business continuity planning.
Eric has led strategic and tactical security operations for Presidential state visits, high-profile events, and multi-billion-dollar art installations and exhibitions. His work reflects a deep understanding of both physical and technical security, as well as the nuances of emergency operations and threat management.
A recognized leader in standards development and training, Eric has contributed technical guidance to several internationally recognized standards through ASIS International, including the Workplace Violence Prevention and Intervention Standard. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, such as the Smithsonian Institution’s National Conference on Cultural Property Protection, where he shares insights on topics like:

Career & Education
Eric began his career in corporate security at Kellogg Company’s World Headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he led emergency preparedness initiatives following the events of September 11, 2001. He later transitioned to cultural property protection as Head of Safety and Security at Monticello, the historic home of Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Since 2015, Eric has served as Director of Protection Services at the Detroit Institute of Arts, overseeing security operations for one of the nation’s premier cultural institutions.
Eric holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University. He is board-certified in security management as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) through ASIS International and holds the highest-level certification from the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection (IFCPP) as a Certified Institutional Protection Manager, Level II.
In 2021, Eric completed the Advanced Threat Assessment Academy through Gavin de Becker & Associates, a global leader in threat assessment. He is also a certified instructor with the ALICE Institute, delivering leading active shooter response training to civilian audiences.
